What to Wear: Weddings

It’s that time of year when friends, family and everyone in between seems to be sizzling in the love-fueled flames that give way to holy matrimony. Weddings are one of those beautifully dreaded moments filling our calendars with penned-hearts and over-booked weekends. We only say dreaded because, for one, there are so many, and two, you’re left finding the perfect dress—for each one.

Men will never understand the obsessive nature that comes with finding the dress. For all we know, it may as well be our wedding day. The cut should be flattering and unconventional, the color—bold and unforgettable. It should be a “this is the one” moment, pricking our eyes with joyous tears (okay, maybe we’re the first to ever admit this, but we know at some point you’ve felt similarly). The process can sometimes take months, leading to the eventual “tap out.” Thus, we’ll regrettably acknowledge defeat choosing something cute, but mediocre at best.

So before you start your ever-daunting search, we thought we might lend you a few suggestions. These picks range from bright and punchy to edgy and elegant. Don’t be surprised when the rave reviews come pouring in after dawning one of these summer-sultry numbers.

How To: Spa Week

Today marks the beginning of spa week (or should we say our favorite week next to fashion week) and as an ode to its brilliance we’ve dedicated this post to everything Zen-like. From dresses with hues that instantly send us into swirls of relaxation, to products that spoil your skin with soft luminosity, we couldn’t be more excited to think and write about the pampering we all deserve.

Suspending our busy lives for the selfish pleasure of a calm euphoria isn’t exactly something we’re used to. However, we see the importance in (occasionally) treating ourselves, and what’s more convincing than a week when pampering doesn’t come at the expense of our purse strings?  Yeah, we can’t argue with that either, so here’s some spa-like favorites we’ve found that will surely appease your tranquil appetites.

Spa Week Prep List:

This Robbi & Nikki maxi exudes ease and effortlessness, the perfect match for your post-massage easygoing attitude. Its radiant color will pair well with your beaming smile as you gracefully glide down the glittering sidewalk (we imagine you’ll be transported into a state of such bliss that even gray will look more like gold).

If you opt for a facial (though we think you should get one of everything), these skin care lines by Comfort Zone and Benefit are the ultimate in upkeep.

Comfort Zone offers organic scrubs and body butters to relieve your youthful glow of dead, dry skin while retaining moisture and keeping the silky smoothness of a body wrap treatment. We also love when products are created without all the harmful chemicals, so we couldn’t pass an opportunity to feature one of the best.

Also within the Comfort Zone family is the Renight facial line, featuring moisture boosting creams and derma-fillers. Talk about products that will keep you from ever walking into a plastic surgeons office. With the help of these essentials you’ll be able to put off that follow-up facial for months at a time!

Benefit is also on the skin savvy train with products like this B.right six-piece starter set, the ideal kit for testing their most beloved in skin care maintenance. Their focus is keeping your face looking young and vibrant, allowing your makeup to be less of a cover-up and more of a means for enhancement. We love a makeup company that keeps our skin’s health at the top of their list, even when we may not.

These are our must-haves for kicking off (and maintaining the radiance of) spa week! We can’t wait to pamper ourselves rotten this week, and we can only hope you do the same—we know you deserve it!

Obsessed with Jess

Judging by her clothing style outside of the show, we’re guessing Zooey Deschanel has a lot to do with the quirky, ultra feminine looks her character Jess dawns in New Girl. We find the pattern mixing, high-waisted skirts and bright ballet flats a refreshing approach to our everyday. Style doesn’t always have to be safe or even chic; it can just as easily be playful and experimental. The best part about this: you’ll never end up wearing the same thing twice. And as a bonus, you’ll never have to worry about blending into the drab, depressing nature of an urban sprawl. So, in honor of our obsession with the daring dress of our favorite fashionable TV character, we’ve created three looks from Cerato that exude her bubbly, carefree sense of style.

Our first look incorporates the often-recreated high-waisted shorts, tights and cheeky prints Zooey’s character wears on the show. We adore this combination for its ease and versatility. With the addition of a few accessories and stepping into a wedge or heel, this ensemble can be transformed from day to night effortlessly.

Cardigans seem to be a staple for Zooey on and off the screen. Rarely do we see her wearing dresses without one. We think it’s the best way to add a layer of conservatism without making an outfit feel overly stuffy. Her dress/cardigan pairings are never boring, however, mixing in metallic or patterns via belts and accessories. This look is preppy, but cute, playful, but classic.

It wouldn’t be right to pull outfits for Zooey or her character Jess without considering the high-waisted skirt. We mostly find her rocking a shorter hemline, flats and long-sleeves, a style decision that never seems tired or overplayed. We specifically picked this candy striped skirt in bubblegum, because frankly, it couldn’t scream “Zooey” any louder if it had a mouth. We imagine she’d go for a basic long-sleeve knit and bright blue flats.

*All Jess-inspired looks are available at Cerato Boutique (with the exception of the high-waisted Marc Jacobs shorts). Shop these looks in store or online, here.

It’s All in the Details

Reflecting on our favorite pieces, we’ve realized one thing sets them apart from every other article in our wardrobe: the details. As you stop to ponder those items you hold most dear, think back to our post featuring Oxmo’s striped cardigan. The pattern and cut were pretty basic in terms of what you might find in stores, but the rose hued buttons and camel colored elbow patches? Not so much. It’s these little additions that brighten our days and sharpen our stylistic sensibility. In lieu of these tiny touches, we’re dedicating today’s post to the delightful details cropping up in our spring attire. From aesthetically practical pockets to plunging lace cut outs, our designers are coming up with some serious eye candy! Here are some of the details we love:
